Why Your Prayers Aren’t Working—And the Enemy Is Winning Instead

When Prayer Feels Powerless

1. Eve in the Garden

You’ve prayed.
You’ve fasted.
You’ve declared, cried, believed... but nothing has shifted.

Meanwhile, the enemy seems to be gaining ground.
The sickness persists.
The bills pile up.
The confusion increases.
And in your quiet moments, a painful question rises in your heart:

“Why aren’t my prayers working?”

Let’s explore three scriptural witnesses—three different events—where this exact tension is felt. In each case, we’ll draw insight into why prayers can seem blocked, and how the enemy can gain ground even when we pray.

WITNESS 1: Daniel’s 21-Day Delay – The Prayer Was Heard, But Blocked

📌“Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day... thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days…”
Daniel 10:12–13 (KJV)

What Happened:

  • Daniel prayed and fasted for 21 days.

  • God heard him on day one, but the answer was delayed by demonic opposition in the heavenlies.

  • Angelic intervention was needed to break the resistance.

Lessons:

Your prayer may be effective—but you need to press until resistance breaks.

📌 The enemy can interfere not with God's answer, but with your receiving of it. Prayer is not magic—it is warfare.

WITNESS 2: Israel vs. Ai – Secret Sin Silenced Their Prayers

📌Israel hath sinned... therefore they could not stand before their enemies...”

“Neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed thing from among you.”  -Joshua 7:10–12 (KJV)

What Happened:

  • After a big victory at Jericho, Israel was defeated by a small town—Ai.

  • Joshua prayed, but God told him, “Get up.”

  • The issue was not more prayer, but unconfessed sin (Achan's hidden disobedience).

Lessons:

God sometimes stops answering until the hidden issue is dealt with.

📌 If your prayers feel powerless, pause and purge. The enemy wins ground when we ignore the little compromises.

WITNESS 3: King Saul’s Rejected Prayer – Rebellion Broke the Channel

📌“And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.”

-1 Samuel 28:6 (KJV)

📌Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft… Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee…”-1 Samuel 15:23 (KJV)

What Happened:

  • Saul disobeyed God repeatedly.

  • In crisis, he prayed—but heaven stayed silent.

  • He turned to a witch for help and sealed his downfall.

Lessons:

Continual rebellion hardens the connection between man and God.

📌 Prayers cannot override rebellion. You can’t live in contradiction and expect connection.

Devotional Takeaway

So... why aren’t your prayers working?

  • Are you being resisted? — Like Daniel?

➤ Then press harder. Don’t quit in the delay.

  • Is there hidden sin? — Like in Joshua’s camp?

➤ Then don’t just pray—repent and clean house.

  • Are you walking in stubborn disobedience? — Like Saul?

➤ Then return to reverence, or heaven may stay quiet.
